History of Public Liability Solicitors
The history of public liability solicitors is known to have started very long ago. It is actually known to have started at around the year 1500 in England. This is where the history of solicitors was known to have started. A solicitor is a person who has studied legal matters. In some countries, the legal profession was divided into two and even up to date, there are some countries that you will find the two categories. The two categories of the legal profession include the solicitors and the barristers.
The main functions of the public liability solicitors is to offer advice to clients when they are outside the court and they are also involved in preparation of legal cases. In the past, the barristers were known to be on a higher level than the solicitors. There was a major difference between the two professionals as some were involved actively in court while for others their
major role was active outside the court. During the early years, not many people were involved in legal affairs and therefore it required people with adequate money to hire a public liability solicitor.
During the year 1823, the standards of the public liability solicitors were raised during a meeting of attorneys. This was a way to ensure that the solicitors not only had good standards but were practicing their profession ethically. The meeting formed an institution called ‘London Law institution’ this is what governed the solicitors as the term London seemed to emphasize on the London state. In the year 1825, that term was eliminated. This would show that the institution would govern all the solicitors.
The year 1825 had a lot of development in the legal industry as this is when a management committee was formed. The legal professionals are the one who formed the committee. The committee formed a very popular society which later acquired a charter for the first time in 1831. In 1832, the industry was still developing as it established a building in a place called Chancery Lane. During the year 1834, the society established some legal matters that would be used against any malicious solicitor. This required the society to develop a committee that would tackle the disciplinary matters. In the year 1907, the committee was formed which dealt with dishonest solicitors. In 1845, this society developed another charter which enabled it to become a private organization. This enabled the body to follow monitor the affairs of all the solicitors.
During the year 1903, this public liability solicitors body changed its name to Law Society. In the year 1922, women were allowed to join the solicitors as professionals and they had the capability to practice their work. Nowadays, you will find that there are many women who are solicitors. Many people were elected to be the leaders of the body. Many seats had been created as more people were joining the body. The body is known to have initially started with very few people, at most 25, and today the number has risen to over a hundred people.
